History[]

Akuma and his brother Gouken were martial artists who trained at the dojo of Master Goutetsu in the art of Ansatsuken, or "Assassin's Fist". As their training progressed, the ideals of the brothers began to divide; Gouken refused to give in to the violence of the martial art and left, while Akuma fully embraced it, particularly its usage of the deadly Satsui no Hado. While Goutetsu was one of few people in the world who had mastered the dark fighting style, he practiced it without fully giving into its killing intent. Akuma, upon mastering it himself, had no such restraint. In an effort to prove he had surpassed his master, the bloodthirsty fighter violentlly killed Goutetsu in a duel, destroying his soul with the powerful Raging Demon technique.

Upon learning of what Akuma had become, Gouken became enraged and challenged his brother. The two, now polar opposites, fought, and while Gouken defeated Akuma in their first match, the latter became even stronger and seemingly killed his brother upon his return. These duels were witnessed by Gouken's students Ryu and Ken, and he took special notice of the former, challenging him to become strong enough to seek him out in revenge. Akuma now wanders the world seeking only to increase his strength. He searches out powerful warriors with the intent to duel, which brings him into contact with several Street Fighters. In this brutal lifestyle, he has made several enemies and rivals. He even managed to kill M. Bison, forcing the terrorist dictator to transfer his soul into another body; while this was a powerful blow against Bison's Shadaloo orginization, Akuma himself is no ally to the cause to bring the crime network down.

Personality[]

Akuma is cold and brutal, and believes one should rely on their fists for everything in life. He wants nothing more than to be stronger, and seeks out challenging opponents to accomplish this. He also has a strict code of honour; while he has no hesitation in killing worthy opponents in combat, he refuses to fight weakened enemies no matter how strong they were in their prime. He also holds back against Ryu in their initial encounters, hoping to test him so that his most promising challenger can grow even stronger.
