History[]

Nathan and his brother Sam were orphans at a young age, who spent their time researching and idolizing history. In an attempt to step up for his younger sibling, Sam purchased Nathan a motorcycle when they were teenagers, and convinced him to break into a nearby manor to retrieve their mother's old notebooks; a last "treasure hunt" before Sam left the orphanage to work. However, they were caught, and when the manor's owner died of a heart attack on the spot, Nathan and Sam went on the run. During this time, believing from their mother's notes that famed explorer Sir Francis Drake had living heirs, the two adopted the surname "Drake".

Sam eventually wound up in prison, but Nathan found a surrogate father figure in the form of Victor Sullivan. With nothing to his name other than his street skills, sense of adventure, and love of history, Drake became a globe-trotting treasure hunter, often with Sully and friends in tow. While this often meant committing break-ins, among other crimes, to analyze clues and investigate artifacts, Drake would also end up putting a stop to terrorists, pirates, and other mercenaries who tried to hijack his trail. Many of the legends Nathan sought would turn out to be true, but after years of epic tales one after the other, even Nathan Drake found time to settle down quietly and raise a family of his own.

Personality[]

Drake's foremost trait is his love of adventure, especially the treasure-hunting kind where X marks the spot. Finding riches doesn't drive him nearly as much as simply proving old fairy tails and conspiracies to be true, such as following his alleged ancestor's footsteps to find the mythical El Dorado. He can go from a gun-toting sharpshooter, to an unorthodox scrappy fighter, to a complete history nerd in the span of a single day.

Nathan is also plenty sarcastic, and his dry wit about his fortune (or lack thereof) is just as quick as his street smarts.
