History[]
Nam comes from a poor village in the middle of the sandy desert; upon his village running out of water, he came to compete in the 21st World Martial Arts tournament to earn money for water. Upon reaching the final eight, he defeated Ranfan, and lost to Goku in the quarter-finals. However, Master Roshi provided Nam with the means to bring water to his village in spite of his loss. Goku later helped destroy a dam blocking river flow to his village, ending the drought.
Nam returned to compete in the 22nd Budokai and improve his skills. However, he was brutally pummeled by Tien in the qualifiers, ending his fighting career. As a previous Budokai Martial Artist, he was also killed by Tambourine during the return of King Piccolo, though he was brought back to life by the Dragon Balls.
Personality[]
Nam is stoic and serious, rarely showing emotion; this was in order to focus on victory, which he critically needed to provide water for his dying village. Without the burden on his shoulders, Nam is very friendly and honourable, even to opponents who have defeated him. He was able to bypass Ranfan's strategy of stripping her clothes to distract him, showing a strong will (albeit he still blushed).
